I caught the 2nd half of the Southern Cal vs. Ohio State debacle tonight while putting the finishing touches on a Power Point presentation. I paid attention long enough to hear Brent Musberger declare Saturday was a “brutal day” for the Big 10. ABC then proceeded to show a chart of all the Big Ten games from the day:
Michigan State BEAT Florida Atlantic…17-0
Minnesota BEAT Montana State…35-23
Illinois BEAT LA Lafayette…20-17
Northwestern BEAT Southern Illinois…33-7
Iowa BEAT Iowa State…17-5
Penn State BEAT Syracuse…55-13
Purdue LOST to #16 Oregon in OT…32-26
Michigan LOST at Notre Dame…35-17
So, to recap, at that point in time the Big 10 was 6-2 on the day, with losses AT Notre Dame and in OT to a Top-20 team. Also, Wisconsin went on to beat Fresno State 13-10…and Ohio State lost 35-3 to USC.
The Big 10 was 7-3 on Saturday…BRUTAL!
In related news, though I’m strongly opposed to making a game out of drinking alcohol, I found this to be a rather clever commentary on Mr. Musberger’s game-calling style.
